Elberon Fire and Rescue/EMS
Elberon Fire serves 24 square miles, responding to 10-15 calls per year. Training includes:

- Grain Bin Rescue
- Manure Pit Rescue
- Confined Space
- Incident Command
- School Bus Rescue
- Agricultural Rescue
The ambulance crew has paramedics, EMTs and drivers servicing 110 square miles and responding to 45-55 calls per year. We are able to transmit 12 lead EKG to hospitals, a Lucas device to deliver compression for CPR, and an auto loading system for patient safety.
History
The City of Elberon Fire Department was founded in 1895 and the station was established at 105 Main Street where it was in use until 2019. The first purchase was a new hose cart in August 1897. In the 1940’s a new fire station was constructed out of cinder block and a new fire truck was purchased. In the 1960’s a south addition was added and in the 1970’s a north addition was added. This addition was added due to the establishment of the Elberon Rural Benefitted Fire District after this type of district was codified by the State of Iowa. The Rural and City Fire departments shared and still do share buildings as well as personnel.
In 1972 the Ambulance was established as a result of grants to bring emergency response to rural areas. Since there was no physician in Elberon, they were eligible. Elberon was the second ambulance established in Tama County Iowa.
